Spartanburg United Soccer Academy Financial Assistance Policy and Application
Spartanburg United Soccer Academy (SUSA) recognizes the importance of inclusivity to all players, regardless of socioeconomic conditions. Accordingly, the academy has developed a Scholarship Policy to increase the availability of its services to interested and qualified members. Such scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis and are subject to availability of funds. Spartanburg United will do everything in their power to provide scholarships to each family in need. However, submission of this application does not guarantee approval for scholarship status or level of assistance received. Determination of scholarship eligibility and award levels are the sole discretion of Spartanburg United Scholarship Committee. All information submitted by applicants is held in confidence.
Scholarships
Spartanburg United Scholarship levels range from 10% to 50% of the seasonal fee. The scholarship player will pay 100% of any other fees, such as uniform, tournament fees or any other fee not covered by the regular season fees.
Eligibility
All players who participate in Spartanburg United tryouts and are offered a position on a team with Spartanburg United are eligible to apply for a scholarship. If a player resigns during the season, they are no longer eligible and will be billed for the full cost of the season.
Obligations of recipients of scholarships
Once the scholarship has been approved, the family of the scholarship player commits to three to six hours (depending on the amount of the scholarship) per season (spring and fall) of club volunteer activities, such as Spartanburg United fundraising activities, Referee Rec games, field assistance, social events assistance. If the scholarship player is 12 years old or older, they are allowed to fulfill the volunteer responsibilities, if the task is appropriate for their age. Details of volunteerism from scholarship members are to be determined jointly between applicant and a representative of the Spartanburg United Scholarship Committee.
Scholarships are an important part Spartanburg United and something we take very seriously. Spartanburg United reserves the right to withdraw scholarships for any player if there is any impropriety in the application process or behavior issues that are detrimental to the club.
Spartanburg United is actively seeking donations to help increase the number of scholarships available to players. Assistance in fundraising and solicitation of donations from individuals and businesses can be very helpful in may increase the availability of scholarships to the applicant.
