Competitive Tryouts

Our Competitive Tryouts place players in the right environment across Futures, Academy, and Select. From building foundations, to developing game understanding, to competing at a higher level, each pathway supports long-term growth. Evaluations focus on technical ability, decision making, physical readiness, and attitude to ensure the best fit for each player.

  • Futures U7 - U8

    The starting point of the Spartanburg United development pathway.  Our Futures environment introduces young players to the game through fun, structured training focused on fundamental skills and love for the game.

  • Academy U9-U12

    Building the technical foundation through structured training and game understanding.

    Players experience the full game environment and advanced tactical concepts.

    Position Specific Roles & Responsibilties



    Teams are formed for different levels of play from local State Leagues to Regional/National Leagues.

  • UPSL

    Spartanburg United offers UPSL Academy teams for boys and girls. The UPSL Academy offers competitive regional and national games that are highly visible recruitment opportunities for professional clubs and colleges.


    ·     Anyone of the proper ages is eligible to play in the UPSL Academy regardless of youth club affiliation.


    ·     Players must try out separately for state teams and UPSL Academy teams.


    ·     SUSA will play in the UPSL Academy Mid-Atlantic Conference of North Carolina, South Carolina Eastern TN and Southern VA.  


    ·     Conference playoff winners advance to regional and national championships each season providing opportunities for players to be seen regionally and nationally.


    ·     State league games and UPSL games will be scheduled around each other.


    ·      The UPSL Academy will have tryouts each season, fall and spring, for boys and girls.


    ·      The divisions will be U17, U15, & U13.


    ·      The fall game season is Sept to November with playoffs in December –January. The spring game season will be either March-June or May-June for different divisions with playoffs in June-July.


    The UPSL Academy program is designed to play alongside the Club teams which currently play in state leagues as an additional higher level of competition.
